1. BUSINESS CASE

Business Case documentation illustrates the reasons for initiating a Business Intelligence project and describes its impact on the organization. In many cases the inefficiency of existing processes drive the need for innovation; in others, strategic corporate initiatives require the introduction of new technology. In order to develop an accurate assessment of a project’s impact, existing business processes and relevant strategic goals are reviewed and documented. The grand vision for the project’s objectives and its affect on the organization are described. A review of the existing technological infrastructure must also take place; this review ensures the organization’s information architecture is ready for the implementation of such a project. Once completed, the project sponsors and key stakeholders review the information and decide whether the project objectives are feasible and whether the project will attain the required corporate response. Upon approval, key assumptions, timelines and high-level budget requirements are compiled and are presented. 

This initial project exploration provides a great source of knowledge and focus for the successive phases of the project.
